School Storytelling Brings Library Resources into the Classroom
Since Fall, 2021, the Villanueva Library has been partnering with the local Elementary School to bring library resources into the elementary school classroom. Every Friday, library staff spend a full class period with the students in each of the K-5 grades to engage to provide reading, storytelling, and hands on activities that engage students with language and books in ways that support imaginative, creative, and literacy skills. The prgram has been a success for both the schools and the library, and is slated to continue in the coming school year. Learn more about Storytelling.

What's happening at the Villanueva Library
The El Valle Community Center Villanueva Library is one of over 100 independent public libraries in the state of New Mexico within the New Mexico State Library system. The Villanueva Library is committed to serving the community by providing access to information and knowledge and supporting the opportunities these bring. We offer over 8000 print items, a well-developed and up to date Children's Library, as well as free computer and internet access.
As the only library within the San Miguel del Bado Land Grant, the library has a maintains a strong interest in preserving and showcasing the local history and culture of the community and the adjacent region. Our Southwest Collection reflects this focus and also includes a strong representation of contemporary Southwest and New Mexico writers. |
The Villanueva Library is one of several "David Cargo" libraries within the state of New Mexico. These libraries bear the name of former New Mexico governor David Cargo, whose support for libraries and their mission provided start-up assistance for several rural community libraries within the state. Mr. Cargo served in the New Mexico House of Representatives and later as governor of the state. In addition to establishing and promoting libraries in remote rural regions, Cargo also established the New Mexico state film commission. |
