IMAGINATION LIBRARY
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a book gifting program that gives free books to children from birth to age five or until they begin school. The program was inspired by Parton's father, who was unable to read and write. Recognizing the limits this placed on her father's and her family's life, Parton started the Imagination Library in 1995 for the children within her home county. Today, her program spans five countries and gifts over 1 million free books each month to children around the world. The Literacy Council of Northeastern New Mexico in Las Vegas NM established the Imagination Library program for San Miguel County as a way to promote literacy countywide through increased access to books. As of July 1, 2020, the program had reached 100 registrants. Research shows that exposing children to books in the early years increases their success throughout the life and raises their educational goals and achievement levels. The Villanueva Library is partnering with the Las Vegas Literacy Council to bring the Imagination Library to El Valle residents. If you live in El Valle and have (or know of) a child under the age of 5, you can register them for the Imagination Library by completing the application. Mail the completed form to Villanueva Library, P.O. Box 61, Villanueva, NM 87583 or email it to [email protected]. Questions? Call 575-421-0808. |
