Summer Reading

Beginning in early June, the Villanueva Library will begin offering our summer reading programs for children. This year, it includes a range of activities for all ages.
  • Reading Challenge – This activity challenges young readers to read 20 minutes each day during the summer and prevent the 'Summer Slide" in learning that can occur during summer months. Readers use the Reading Challenge Tracker and the Reading Log to track their progress in 20 minute “steps” and log their books.  We will be adding the Beanstack app to help readers and family track minutes, earn badges, and more. Register using the attached form or online application and start reading now!  If you don't already have a library account, apply for one here.
  • Saturday Morning Story Hour – Starting June 12th, we will meet Saturday mornings from 10-11 outside the Library to hear animal stories for children of all ages.  Refreshments provided. View our flyer.
  • Kinder Story Circle – Starting June 9th, we will meet Wednesday mornings from 9-10 outside the Library to listen to stories and engage in reading-related activities and games. Refreshments provided. View our flyer.
  • Family Story Project – This pilot project celebrates family stories that are unique to a family culture and identity. Families form teams that work together to identify and record an important family story. The project builds teamwork and narrative skills and is ideally suited for high school or older students. Please call the library at 575-421-0808 or email [email protected] for more details.
